Joshua A. Redding was an 8th grader at Holmes Middle School in Livonia when he died by suicide on March 26, 2023.  A remarkable young man whose shining light and presence touched everyone around him, Josh excelled academically and as a Track & Field athlete. He loved cooking, was fascinated with cars, and enjoyed nice clothes that showcased his unique personality.  Josh is remembered for his beautiful smile and as a caring and selfless soul who was always ready to lend a helping hand and be a loyal, supportive friend. He is endlessly loved and deeply missed.

Mental health services and suicide prevention are vital fields that can save thousands of lives every year. Around 1 in 5 adults in the U.S. experience mental illness and 1 in 20 experience serious mental illness. Mental health struggles can start early, making suicide the 2nd-highest cause of death among Americans between the ages of 10-34.

This scholarship seeks to honor Joshua Redding's life by providing support to students who want to make a difference in mental health and suicide prevention.

Any high school senior attending Livonia Public Schools or residing in Livonia and interested in studying social work, therapy, or psychology and hoping to work in mental health and suicide prevention may apply for this scholarship.
