About The Event
This year's theme is "Bending the Arc of Justice" in celebration of the power of service, education, and collective action to continue Dr. King's vision of justice and equality. It perfectly frames our continued tradition of illuminating the often unknown contributions of women who lit the fires of the Civil Rights movement and individuals who work to keep those fires burning today.
Special Guest - Sharon E. Sexton We're excited to welcome historian, author, and civil rights advocate Sharon E. Sexton this year. A Detroit native, Sharon is known for her children's book, "MLK Jr.'s Detroit Dream: Memoir of a Civil Rights Foot Soldier," which recounts her childhood experiences at Dr. King's 1963 Detroit "I Have a Dream" speech and makes Black history accessible for young readers.
